I keep getting stuck on how to set up this equation..i can do them once i get the setup right.

Hamburgers cost $2 each and Pizzas cost $6 each. If the number of hamburgers was 2 more than twice the number of pizzas, and a total of $84 was spent, how many hamburgers and how many pizzas were purchased?

Looks like $2 times the number of hamburgers plus $6 times the number of pizzas will cost $84.
Then, you said the number of hamburgers was 2 more than twice the number of pizzas.

From the first sentence you can come up with: 2h + 6p = 84

From the second sentence you get: h = 2p + 2

Now, simply solve the linear system of equations using your favorite technique (substitution, elimination, matrices, etc.)

Enjoy
