how to divide radicals?

Hello, Richard!

Problem: 12 divided by the square root 3.

The answer is obviously \(\displaystyle \dfrac{12}{\sqrt{3}}\)

But they probably want you to rationalize the denominator.

Multiply by \(\displaystyle \frac{\sqrt{3}}{\sqrt{3}}\!:\;\;\dfrac{12}{\sqrt{3}}\cdot\dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{\sqrt{3}} \;=\;\dfrac{12\sqrt{3}}{3} \;=\;4\sqrt{3}\)
