What have you tried so far?
This is quite a bit over my head.
This post looks to be self-contradictory.
Why would you ask the user what was tried, and then
state that it is "quite a bit over [your] head?"
How could you then help said user?
Well, even though I couldn't help directly, I could do 2 things that might be helpful for the poster.
1) I could encourage them to post their work, so that when a poster more skilled than I came along ( perhaps someone as smart as lookagain), they wouldn't have to ask the exact same question....
2) I hoped that my post would serve as a bump, to bring the question back to the top, since no one had commented yet. I hoped that bringing it back to the top would get it more attention.
I appologize that once again my feeble attempts to help have failed to meet the high standards you have set. Please forgive me, kind sir, and I assure you I will strive even harder to please you.

Yes, you *did* have "feeble attempts" as you described them, but
it does not look as if that condition is necessarily terminal.
Perhaps, another user with adequate patience can "take you under their wing"
to strengthen and encourage you.
Wisdom can be contagious.
It's *not* about pleasing me. It's about being consistent, accurate,
and not giving a user mixed messages.
You see, you are deflecting on to me, which is changing the subject.
Well, there was apparently no permanent harm done (this time).
When you know you are *admitting* to yourself that it is quite over your head,
then you would not ask for what was tried so far, because you're not
"ready to run with the ball."
Live and learn . . .
Here's a hypothetical example to illustrate it:

1) This content in this sentence does not count, because you
changed the subject and deflected onto me. It's part of a
nonargument of "show me you can do as well or better than
so-and-so."
2) Nope, you were taken to task for having that that last immature post to me
where you used sarcasm. Had you stopped after the two paragraphs above it,
this wouldn't have arisen. But you did not stop with those two paragraphs.
3) No, you didn't understand correctly, so I'll go through it again.
It is a mixed message to ask someone what they have tried and then
state that they can't help them after all. What the heck!?
