William Lambton is taking measurements from one of the Great Arc towers located in Begarazpur to the north of Delhi. Two ancient stone monuments directly behind one another are sighted from the 30 m tall tower. The angle of depression of monument A from the tower is 23 (degrees) and the angle of depression of monument B is 33 (degress).

a) Draw a diagram which represents the situation
b) Find the distance of each monument from the foot of the tower
c) Find the distance between the monuments

1. Your diagram probably looks exactly as the sketch in the attachment(?).

2. You are dealing with 2 right triangles. x is the distance from the tower to monument B. Then you know:

\(\displaystyle \frac x{30}=\tan(57°)\) Why is the interior angle 57°?

3. The distance from the tower to the monument A is calculated with the 2nd right triangle. Use the tan-function again.

4. The distance between the monuments is determined by y - x.
