A spherical melon has radius 3 inches. You cut a slice 2 inches from its center. What is the volume of the piece you cut from the melon?
Thank you very muchI assume by 'cut a slice' you mean the end is cut off the melon 2 inches from the center?.
If so, this is called a 'spherical cap' and it ha a formula.
\(\displaystyle \displaystyle V=\frac{{\pi}h^{2}}{3}\left(3r-h\right)\)
h is the depth of the cap. In this case, 1 inch. r is the radius of the melon.
