I have a story problem that I put into an equation but I am stuck in how to solve the equation x/5-19.5=x/6, please advise how to start solving. I think I move the x/5 over to the same side as the x/6, than what?

You could do that, of course. But you'd still be left with those fractions.

I'd multiply BOTH sides of the equation by something that both denominators would divide into (30 would be a good choice):

30(x / 5) - 30(19.5) = 30(x / 6)

Since each denominator divides into 30, you'll be left with an equation that has no fractions:

6x - 585 = 5x

Now....can you take it from there?
