I was practicing long division and reached 286 r1944 but my calculator on the computer says 290. When I divided the whole number, as opposed to going through the steps of long division and dividing 9189 first as being the smallest set of digits able to be divided, I reached the 290 conclusion that the calculator reached.

Why and how?

Show us your long division work so that we may be able to see why you got 286 instead of 290.

-----2853 <--- I subtracted wrong the first time and got a number after carrying down the 9 that was too small to be divided into 9 times. What a silly oversight.

I fact-checked myself 4 times on paper and missed this repeatedly! Well thanks for telling me to do what I already should have. Appreciate your time lol.

(I don't know how to format a long division on here btw lol, so sorry if it doesn't come out legibly.)
