Section 6 Coordinate Geometry

6) Given point A = (4, 9) and point B = (9, 14). A point C divides the line joining AB in the ratio of 3:8, i.e point C is nearer to point A. What is the equation of the line perpendicular to line AB and passes through point C, in the form of y = mx + c?
Answer: (Correct to 3 decimal places) The equation of the line is y =
x + .

What have you tried? Can you find the point?

Can't see your work...

I have removed the table formatting from your copy-and-paste of your online assessment. But I'm not able to fix the "answer" portion of your post, because I'm afraid I don't understand it...? What is meant by "y = x + ."?

Since you have shown no work (and posted this under "Calculus"), I will guess that you are requesting lesson instruction for the various topics entailed by this exercise. So:

To learn what ratios and proportions are, please try here.

To learn how to apply this information to situations with "parts", please try the bottom portion of the lesson page here.

To learn about the Distance Formula, please try here.

To learn about the slope of straight lines, please try here.

To learn about straight-line equations, please try here.

Once you have studied the above lessons and learned the basic background material, please attempt the exercise. If you get stuck, you can then reply with your work so far, at which point we can provide you with specific helps. Thank you! ;)
