Could you please explain how I go about answering this?
Nicci buys 4kg packet of nuts and raisins. She notices 3/8 of the contents are raisins. How many kilograms of nuts are there?

I'll do a similar problem for you:

Jeff buys a packet of 20 marbles - red and blue. There are 75% red marble in the packet. How many blue marbles are there in the packet?

Number of red marbles = 75% of 20 = 0.75 * 20 = 15

Number of blue marbles = Total - Red = 20 - 15 = 5

Follow the exact same process for your problem.

Please show us what you have tried and exactly where you are stuck.

Please follow the rules of posting in this forum, as enunciated at:

I'm sorry but this was not helpful, could you please talk me through my problem?

First tell me whether you understood the "similar" problem I solved in my previous response.

Either could convert 3/8 to a percentage or maybe Subhotosh should have stated 3/4 instead of 75%.

I will make the change in his post here:

Jeff buys a packet of 20 marbles - red and blue. 3/4 of the marbles in the packet are red. How many blue marbles are there in the packet?

Number of red marbles = 3/4 of 20 = (3/4) * 20 = 15

Number of blue marbles = Total - Red = 20 - 15 = 5.

Those this help?

For the record, 3/8 = (3/8)*100% = 37.5% = .375

You really should have known to change the 3/8 to percentage and then follow the previous post.

How did you determine that, Jomo?

I've seen a number of schools that don't introduce percents and proportions until the semester after completing lessons on fractions, mixed numbers, and decimal forms.
