17. The exact value of \(\displaystyle \cos\left(\dfrac{u}{2}\right)\) when \(\displaystyle 3\pi\, <\, u\, <\, \dfrac{7\pi}{2}\) and \(\displaystyle \tan (u)\, =\, \dfrac{\sqrt{5\,}}{2}\) is:

a) \(\displaystyle \pm\, \sqrt{\dfrac{5}{6}\,}\). . .b) \(\displaystyle \pm\, \sqrt{\dfrac{1}{6}\,}\). . .c) \(\displaystyle -\sqrt{\dfrac{5}{6}\,}\). . .d) \(\displaystyle -\sqrt{\dfrac{2}{3}\,}\)

e) \(\displaystyle -\sqrt{\dfrac{1}{6}\,}\). . .f) \(\displaystyle \sqrt{\dfrac{1}{6}\,}\). . .g) \(\displaystyle \sqrt{\dfrac{5}{6}\,}\). . .h) None of these.

For the given interval, what is the sign of the cosine? What is the formula for the cosine of a half angle?
