Hi

I present a show on BBC Radio Suffolk a UK station , what I'd like to do it work out the centre of the county (Suffolk) or find someone that can.

I've had someone suggest the following...

To find the centre of mass of the county by tracing around the county onto thick card Eg cardboard box and then follow the simple method shown in this video

I'm not sure that would be the correct way to find the centre...

Thanks

Matt

First Moment of Area

The answer lies in finding the centroid of the area. You will have to dissect the land mass area into regular shapes and then from there take first moments of area from an arbitrary axis. There's a lot of information on YouTube that'll explain the concept.
