but next it says to find out the number of kilometers ran and i dont get that part.

Since the exercise, as posted, says nothing about "kilometers" or "running", we would have no way of helping with that. Also, is x = 2x - 5, is 2x - 5 > 43, or both?

Since Bob = x, then Adele = 2x - 5

Bob + Adele = 43 minimum, so: x + 2x - 5 = 43
3x = 48
x = 16 : Bob = 16 and Adele = 2(16) - 5 = 27

Since they ran AT LEAST 43, and you want THE LEAST that Adele ran,
then why are you worried about inequalities?
