I'm re-working the problems from my tests to prepare for the final. This is one that I originally got wrong and though I now understand the concept, I still can't seem to get the right answer:
If a faucet is dripping at the rate of 15 drops per minute and there are 20 drops in a cubic centimeter, how many liters of water are wasted in the month of April?
30 days x 24 hr x 60 min = 43,200 min in April
43200 min x 15 drops = 64,8000 drops / 20 drops = 32,400 in a cubic centimeter
My teacher wrote on my paper that 1 ml = 1 cubic centimeter, so I have 32,400 ml. 1000 ml = 1 L, so moving the decimal over 3 places gives me 32.4 liters. My teacher wrote that the correct answer is 3.4 L, though. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help!
