Hello, WendelLewis!

Is some information missing?

How do I figure out that \(\displaystyle x = 11.66^o\) in the attached problem?

I'd say that it's impossible . . .

We are given this right triangle:
Code:
    A *
      | *
      | *
      | *
      | 41.94 *
32.43 | * 43.6
      | *
      | *
      | *
      | *
    C *-------------------* B
             29.14

According to the diagram, we can draw any line from \(\displaystyle A\) to side \(\displaystyle BC.\)
Code:
    A *
      |\*
      | \ *
      |x \ *
      | \ *
32.43 | \ * 43.6
      | \ *
      | \ *
      | \ *
      | \ *
    C *---------*----------* B
                D
      : - - - 29.14 - - - :

And there is no way to determine \(\displaystyle \angle x \,=\,\angle CAD.\)

Thank you for your help Soroban. I should have noticed that earlier... given the info, ANY line could be drawn from point A to line CD. Thanks much.

Can't we use properties of similar triangles ?

Yes -- we cannot.

This is because we have no triangle similar to triangle ACD. 8-)
