please help with graphing

Where you are stuck? You've picked some x-values, plugged them into the equation, solved for the corresponding y-values, drawn the dots, and... then what?

Please reply with specifics. Thank you.

Eliz.

x+ 3y = -6

then i subtracted -x from both sides

i come up with 3y= -6-x and them divide by 3
i then come up with
y=-3x-2
is this correct
after that i am losed

The -x step is fine. What do you get when you divide BOTH sides by 3?
Hint: it isn't -3x-2.

You're "losed" at which point? So far, all I can see that you've done is subtract the "x" to the other side...?

Are you solving for "y=", or are you trying to graph the equation?

Thank you.

Eliz.

I'f you're trying to put this equation into y=mx+b (or c as some say) format, then like you said, you subtract x from both sides and then you divide both sides by 3. So, This is what you did:
. . .
x+3y=-6
. . .
3y=-x-6
. . .
Now, this is where, like you said, you divide both sides by 3. What you did was divide wrong. -x divided by 3 is NOT -3x. That would mean that you MULTIPLIED instead if divided. So, now that you know what you did wrong, how about trying that again?
