The fact is, most functions are almost linear if you zoom in far enough (that is, take small enough steps). That is the basis of calculus and the idea of a tangent. There is really nothing special here.

You probably got the exact number "displayed" in your TI calculator - but those are exact quotient. In real world, exact numerical answers are rare.
