Simple percentage increase help!

Hi guys,

I'd really appreciate some help on this.

Question: In 1990 the population of Melchester was 1,560,000. By 1995 that had increased by 8%. What was the population in 1995?

I keep getting 1,684,800, using 1,560,000 x 1.08, yet the book says the answer is 1,690,200, and I'm at a loss as to how they got to that figure!
