Step Function & Piecewise function

Hi,

I am helping my nephew with his math. His teacher in class covered the Domain and Range of a graph in class. Now he is teaching step function and Piecewise function. My nephew is having a little difficulty with this and so am I since it's been years since I have done this level of math. Would you be able to give detailed examples of each function so I can explain it to my nephew?

I am assuming you have done google search and have gone to sites like:

After reading those - if you have particular question - we will try to answer. However, I do think your nephew should ask the questions instead of you.
