Hello,

Am I am just trying figure something out here,

if your course is worth 40% assignment and 60% examination, and say for example you do not get 40% in your written assignments, for example you get 0% for the assignment, can you still pass the module, by taking the exam only? As you need An weighted aggregate mark of 40% to pass the module. And the exam is worth 60% of the module mark.

thank you.

If you get 100 in your exam - how much would that add towards your final grade?

am not sure? there are 3 assignments, each worth 100 marks, and the exam is also out of a 100. And my teacher said, you could pass the module, by the assignments alone, as it is worth 40%, and that is what is needed to pass.

Is this the situation?

assignments = 40% weight

test = 60% weight

passing grade = 40

If you have 0 marks for the assignments then you need to get a mark of 67 on the test to pass

(40% * 0) + (60% * 67) = 0 + 40.2 = 40.2 > 40.

(40% * 0) + (60% * 66) = 0 + 39.6 < 40.

What you teacher was saying was that, since the modules count for 40% of the grade, and you only need a 40 to pass, if you got 100% on the modules, then, even with a 0 on the exam, you would get .40(100)= 40, a (barely) passing grade.

Seems to me it would be better to do well on both modules and exam!
