It is a line segment (AB) with a midpoint marked as C. AC is 24, and CB is not marked, but is 24 as well, seeing as how C is a midpoint. The entire line segment is 5x+14. Solve for X.

Ok...if I understand you correctly, your problem is this:
A-------------C--------------B
C is the midpoint of segment AB. Since you are told that AC = 24, and C is the midpoint, BC = 24 also (as you've said). If AC = CB = 24, how far is it from A to B?
AB is the distance between A and B, or the length of segment AB, and you know that
AB = 5x + 14
Substitute the length you got for AB into this equation....and solve for x.
(by the way, I AGREE with the answer you said you got.....)
