Forumula Transpositon

Hey all,
I hope this is the right topic for this thread Just for starters I thought I should mention that most of my Algebra knowledge is self-taught since I was home educated. Hence I have a few gaps in what I know, and most of those gaps are pretty huge :/. Just wanted to mention that in case I make some really bad mistakes with my work.

Anyway, I have a college assignment and it wants me to perform some transposition, this is what I have done but I'm not sure it's right.

Solve for r

I started by moving ( P + r )


Then moving r over and expanding the brackets


Then I moved P(k) over and divided by k


This is where I got a bit confused, I pretty much assumed the two k's would cancel so that I ended up with this:


Not sure if that's right or not. Also sorry about the detail I went into with this, just thought it might help track down what I'm doing wrong Thanks for any help!

We actually LIKE to see detailed work. As you suspected, detailed work helps us to point you to the right direction.

You were doing fine; stumbled a few yards from finish line; here:

k = (t - r) / (p + r)

k(p + r) = t - r

kp + kr = t - r

kr + r = t - kp

r(k + 1) = t - kp

r = (t - kp) / (k + 1)

OK?

Not okay. The only variable that occurs in lower case in the given problem is "r."

And, Sathhin, once a variable is given in lower case or upper case, then it remains
in that case.
