The Problem:Find the solution in radians: tan a -1 = 0. What I'm confused about is that in the back of the book the answer has n ∈ Z after it, and I'm not sure what that means...

That really does not make sense - make sure you read the answer to the correct question and you posted the "answer" correctly.

That "n" is probably a pi (π) - but that "7" really does not make sense.

The full answer is a= (pi/4) +n*pi, n ∈ Z.

The "7" is probably supposed to be an "I", meaning the set of integers. It means that n is an element of the set of integers (that n is any integer).
