Did I do the math correctly?

Question: Find an equation of the line that satisfies the given conditions:

(1,7) slope = 2/3

y - 7 = 2/3 (x - 1)
y - 7 = 2/3x - 2/3
y = 2/3x + 5/3 (added 7 to 2/3)
y - 2/3x = 5/3

Is the equation y - 2/3x = 5/3 correct?

y = 2/3x + 5/3 (added 7 to 2/3) <== 7 - 2/3 = 21/3 - 2/3 = (21-2)/3 = 19/3
y - 2/3x = 5/3 <== y - (2/3) x = 19/3

Is the equation y - 2/3x = 5/3 correct?
You have the right idea but made a mistake [see red above]. You could have also multiplied through by 3 and written
3 y - 2 x = 19
depending an just what form it needs to be in as a 'standard answer' for your teacher.

Hmm How did you get 21/3?

I thought I was supposed to subtract 7 from 2/3 which I thought would get me 5/3

To add or subtract two fractions you need to get a common denominator. 7- 2/3 (2/3 subtracted from 7 not "7 subtracted from 2/3") which is 7/1+ 2/3 becomes (3*7)/(3*1)- 2/3= 21/3- 2/3= 19/3.

5/3 would be 7/3- 2/3, not 7- 2/3.

Hmm How did you get 21/3? 7= ( )/3. Then ( ) = 3*7 or 21. So 7 = 21/3

Let's work with what you said. If you subtract 7 (which is more than 1) from 2/3 (which is less than 1) you will get a negative answer not 5/3 as you said.

In your original post yow wrote (added 7 to 2/3) which is not correct as you did not have 2/3 but rather you had -2/3. So you needed to add 7 to -2/3. That is you needed to compute -2/3 + 7 OR 7 - 2/3. Either way you have a very small negative number (close to 0) and you are adding 7. You should get a number just under 7. 5/3 or 5 divided by 3 is not even 2. This is where you should have realized that something is wrong.

The technique on how to compute -2/3 + 7 has already been shown.

Good luck
