The absolute value

Here I have two problems (solving for the slope) which are solved and they are correct. My question is why do we with 707. divide the absolute value into two cases, one where everything stays the same, the other where we multiply the right side by - 1, but in 711. we do not do that.IMG_20210211_200101.jpg

It’s worse. Sometimes she asks us to explain part of the answers without giving us the entire answer, the exact wording of problem, or what she is studying.
 
I decided to take the time to figure out what the problems are, as a challenge.

The first problem asks for two lines that are at a 45 degree angle from the given line, so you use the angle-difference formula for the tangent to find the slopes of these two lines. Of course there are two of them, at angles of +45 and -45 from the given line.

The second problem asks, I think, for two lines that make a 45 degree angle with both of a pair of perpendicular lines; these will be the two angle bisectors, which will themselves be perpendicular. (I can't tell what the point S has to do with it.) Possibly they recognize geometrically that they can rotate each line in only one direction because taking the negative angle would just result in the other line. I would expect a good solution to explain that.

You really do need to learn to help people help you. I assume you don't because it would be too much work for you to translate both the problem and the provided solution; but a Google translation might be good enough, and it would be better than expecting others to do the extra work instead of you. I like challenges, and I am very sympathetic to students with language difficulties, but I'd rather have math challenges, or even language challenges (if you gave us the original) to having to make guesses.
