B Puzzled/ Need to start concrete beam dig, from the 14' side!

Please Help if possible,
I have an Octogon with each side at 10',
I need to know where one 14' line intersects
at two opposite sides while running parallel
inside of one side.

So, how far does this 14' line intersect up the sides?
Or, how far away from one parallel side of the
Octogon will this 14' line go?


If you don't mind, I'm puzzled,
These are the only 2 parameters I
have.

Did you draw a picture? The 14' line is part of a trapezoid. Do you know how to calculate the interior angles of an octogon? Have you given any thought to this exercise? :cool:

not only do you need to tell us what you've done or thought about thus far,

you need to state whether this is a regular octagon. **

With each side being 10', it can be said that it is an equilateral octagon.




** The measures of all of the internal angles equal each other
(in addition to it being equilateral).

A Trapizoid. So then I calculate the answer to be 2.828 ft or 2' 10"

of shapes, other than traffic stop signs.

You're talking about two sides, each of which is adjacent to a
common side.

Your scenario appears to be, for example, sides AB and CD, and
provided that these sides belong to an octagon in a
stop sign shape.

to a side and in the interior of the octagon.
