Hi,
I have a fairly complex equation below and I am trying to apply BIDMAS

n≥ ((1-0.6×0.7)×1004.5×9.81)
(2×0.6×sin⁡39×5000) ×1.25

I have attched an image showing equation in correct format. Could someone please work out the answer so that I can check that my calculation is correct
Thank you

Show us your computation, and we shall show you where, if anywhere, you have made an error.

You have an inequality rather than an equation. Just what are you supposed to do: simplify the right hand side of the inequality? You forgot to tell us.

Are you working with radians or degrees?

The expression is (assuming you are working in degrees):

n ≥ \(\displaystyle \frac{(1-0.6 * 0.7) * 1004.5 * 9.81}{2 * .06 * sin(39^o) * 5000} * 1.25\)

n ≥ \(\displaystyle \frac{(1-0.42) * 1004.5 * 9.81}{0.12 *0.6293 * 5000} * 1.25\) ......... continue

What answer did you get? If you had shown your work - you would have gotten significant help by this time......

Thank you for your replies

I got to 5715.4/377.58 x 1.25

=15.1369 x 1.25

=18.92
I agree. Good work.

You will get quicker answers if you specify the problem completely and either show your work (even if incomplete or incorrect) or explain why you cannot even start

Where is the transcription error?
Can you please recheck your calculation?

[MATH]\text{ }\\[/MATH]The original question gives [MATH]n≥1.892[/MATH] (3 d.p.)

(You have ".06" on the bottom line, instead of 0.6)

cf. post #7

@lex This is funny. I got your answer. Saw that the student and the great Khan had an answer that did not agree, looked back at the great Khan’s post, and came to agreement. I am going to the corner for 0.6 minutes.

@JeffM
I am very relieved to read your post. I found myself in a minority of 1 - 'contra mundum' again!
I was beginning to doubt the last vestige of my sanity.

Clearly I had first looked at the attachment and used 0.6. I noticed that I was off by a factor of 10. I must then have scrolled back up to Subhotosh’s post and seen the 0.06. And I actually remember doing the entire calculation over again with 0.06. Had I scrolled up just a tad more and reviewed the attachment, I would have started to think.

How long does Subhotosh spend in the corner for not spotting the typo when it was pointed out?!

At least 0.6 days.....

Thank goodness that Jomo is not watching this thread - he would send me to the corner for 0.6 leap-years......
