Here is a mathcounts question that I can't understand how to get the answer.
:In the figure shown, a perpendicular segment is drawn from B in rectangle ABCD to meet AC at point X. Sicd AB is 6 cm and diagonal AC is 10 cm. How far is point X from the midpoint M of the diagonal AC? Express your answer as a decimal to the nearest tenth,

Diagonal AC creates right triangle ABC: AB=6,AC=10, so BC=8.
Line BX being perpendicular to AC means BX is the height from B, so 10BX = 6 * 8, BX = 4.8
Take over...
 
I gave you the length of BX; can you not finish it now?
