Given f(x) = 3(x)to the 2nd power & g(x) = 4x + 1 evaluate the following:

a. f(-5)

Re: Algebra II

if f(x) = 3x[sup:3qhgk42w]2[/sup:3qhgk42w], then f(-5) = 3(-5)[sup:3qhgk42w]2[/sup:3qhgk42w]

so ... was there more to it than that?

Re: Algebra II

what do i multiply first? the (-5) by the exponent or the 3 by the (-5)?

Re: Algebra II

Order of operations:
Brackets
Eexponents
Division or/and Multiplication
Addition or/and Subtractions

BEDMAS - a sort of easy to remember acronym
Just to note: It doesn't matter whether division or multiplication comes first. Same thing with addition and subtraction. Just as long as you perform all divisions or multiplications before doing your addition and subtraction.
