"Wire is commonly made by putting hot metal through a hole in a plate. What length of wire of diameter 1mm can be made from 1cm cube of metal?". The answer in the textbook is "about 127cm". Can anybody tell me what steps to take? I cannot see a way of getting 127cm from 1mm. I tried working out the area of the wire- n0.5^2=1/4n. I then divided 1 by 1/4n=1.273.. but that answer is no where near 127. Any help will be gladly appreciated C:

What volume (in milliliters) is equal to "one cubic centimeter"?

If the diameter is 1mm, what then is the radius? Then what is the cross-sectional area?

The length is the "height" of the cylinder with the cross-sectional area you just found. The cylinder will have the given volume. The product of the cross-sectional area of a cylinder and its height gives its volume.

Set equal and solve. Convert the millimeters back to centimeters. ;)
