I'm helping a friend to design an electronic instrument, using Inkscape.
The instrument consists of various ovoid sectors - the smallest of which is 25 mm X 18 mm (see fig. 1).

Somewhere inside that piece needs to be a rectangular slot: 11 mm X 7 mm. In fig. 1 it is placed in the bottom left corner, but that's just to make a starting point.
To make the ovoid sector piece as strong as possible, I want to rotate and position the rectangular slot so that the corners are as far from the outside edges of the piece as possible. I started by considering the piece as a right-angle triangle, so to make the slot parallel with the hypotenuse, I rotated it clockwise by 35.8 degrees (see fig. 2).

Now I want to move the slot so that the four corners are equidistant from the edges of the sector, and this is where I am stuck. I have tried to get it roughly right by trial and error (see fig. 3).

However, I'm sure there must be a better way to work this out. I'm also now starting to doubt my logic in calculating the rotation. It looks like a smaller angle might give a better result.

So to sum up:
- Is 35.8 the optimal rotation for the slot?
- How can I calculate the X and Y positioning to get the maximum distance between the corners of the slot and the outside edges of the ovoid sector?
