Intermediate Algebra: how do you work 6x^2 - 27x + 12 = ?

Re: Need Help!!! Intermediate Algebra

That isn't a problem. It is an expression followed by an equal sign. Just what are the instructions and please show us what you have done so far.

Factor Completely is what the instructions are. And the expression was written wrong.

6x[sup:3poryea7]2[/sup:3poryea7] - 17x + 12 =

(3x - ___)(2x - ___)

this is where I got stuck...because I found the GCF for 12

1*12
2*6
3*4

but couldn't get any of these numbers to add up to the middle term (-17). Someone gave me the answer. NOT WHAT I WANTED...I wanted someone to show me how they got it.
ANSWER: (3x - 4)(2x - 3).

Re: Need Help!!! Intermediate Algebra

What 2 numbers when multiplied equal 72(because 12 times 6 = 72) and when added equal -17?.

Try -9 and -8

\(\displaystyle 6x^{2}-9x-8x+12\)

Now continue by grouping and factoring. Can you?.
