2. -9-b+8b =-23
-9-7b=-23
+9 +9

-7b =-14
____ _____
7 (the 7's are separated. the are dividing -7b and -14) 7 = -21

ok i'm still stuck on this one: can someone tell me the steps on how to check it?? what comes first, second, third?? Just break down the process and explain what steps there are! Thanks!

It might help if we could tell clearly what you've posted...? Is the exercise the "-9 - b + 8b = -23" part? I'm not sure what follows that...? (Using the formatting explained in the links in the "Forum Help" pull-down menu at the top of the page would be very helpful in clarifying your meaning.)

Also, what are the instructions?

You say you're trying to "check it". Do you mean that you're trying to verify your solution? To do that, just plug your solution back into whatever the original question was, and make sure it works.
