so could someone tell me how'd to solve this equation and the rule for factoring in equations.\

x22x-2x=0

Here is how i tried to solve:

x22x-2x=0

x(2-2)x=0 factored out common factors

\(\displaystyle x^22x\) really? Your text used that notation?

\(\displaystyle 0 = x^22x - 2x = 2x^3 - 2x = 2x(x^2 - 1) \implies\)

\(\displaystyle x(x - 1)(x + 1) = 0 \implies x = 0\ or\ x = \pm 1.\)

Yup i'm using a college base algebra book and this question was annoying the he'll out of me, so i'd thought I would be better off asking for some help.
