A star is \(\displaystyle 35\) parsecs away. How long does it take for its light to reach us?

parsecs is denoted \(\displaystyle \text{pc}\)

And \(\displaystyle 1 \ \text{pc} = 3.26 \ \text{ly}\) (I will explain this result in future Episodes.)

Then,

\(\displaystyle 35 \ \text{pc} = 35 \ \text{pc} \times \frac{3.26 \ \text{ly}}{\text{pc}} = 114.1 \ \text{ly}\)

This means that it takes \(\displaystyle 114.1\) years for the light to reach us!

😱
