I have the following question which I'm trying to work through but the wording is tripping me up, especially the beginning with the drawing. If I could just get started with that, then maybe I could work out the rest. Thanks.
A ship leaves a port P and sails in a direction 36 degrees east of south to reach a port Q. It then sets out from port Q and sails in a direction 52 degrees west of south to reach another port R that is 80km directly south of port P.(You may assume that all distances are flat and in a straight line).
(a) Draw a diagram showing the points P, Q and R, marking in the angles and the length that you are given.
(b) Find the distance that the ship sails to get to port Q, that is, the length of theside PQ.
(c) A distress signal is received from a small boat situated at point D, due west of port Q and due south of port P. Add a line to your diagram that shows the shortest distance from port Q to this boat. What angle does the line QD make with PR?
(d) Each port has an emergency crew that they can send to the distressed boat. Assuming that each crew can travel at the same speed to get there, which crew would be most likely to get there quickest?
