Another word problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!!


An architect has designed a motel pool within a rectangular area that is fenced on three sides. If she uses 60 yards of fencing to enclose an area of 352 square yards, then what are the dimensions of L and W? Assume that L is greater than W. Thanks!!

Start with the "perimeter" formula for a rectangle, and plug in the given "perimeter" information.

Solve for one of the variables.

Plug the other variable and the expression (from above) into the "area" formula for a rectangle, and set equal to the given "area" value.

Solve the resulting quadratic equation.
