How do I solve these?

1. Cot^2X(sec^2X -1) = 1

2. y = tanX/secX

I have a couple more.
 
Pull out all your best identities and transform things.

Crutch: When in doubt, change things to sine and cosine.

Without knowing the value of y, we can solve this equation for x symbolically only — in terms of arctan(y), I think.

You're asked to simplify the righthand side, instead, yes? Follow tkhunny's suggestion. 8-)
